Samburu County Governor Calls for the Renewal of the Pokot-Samburu Peace-Covenant. The Governor informed a peace meeting in Poro on Wednesday that we shall renew the Peace Covenant that existed between the Samburu and the Pokot Community.
During a high level community peace meeting that brought together the Pokot of Malaso and the Samburu residents of Poro Location and attended by the County Commissioner and the County Police and AP commanders, the Governor informed that the Government will recover the cows that were stolen by the Pokot and will be presented back on Friday. The Samburu community should equally avail the 40 goats that were stolen from the Pokot for exchange and return to the pokot on Friday.
This will be a land mark event that will restore the peace that has been enjoyed in the area over the last few years. A historical peace Covenant existed between the Samburu and the Pokot that forbids raids and atrocities against each as communities. This was violated in the recent years when the communities broke the abomination t and started raids against each other. The renewal of the covenant is being spearheaded by the Samburu County Governor and the Baringo East MP Hon. AsmanKamama.
This is the second time in a month that stolen cows are being returned to the County from our neighboring counties, this being part of the long-term efforts by the County Government to secure our borders and ensure sustainable peace in Samburu the County.
