Environmental conservation remains to be one of the key components for the sustainability of the natural ecosystems and local livelihoods. The department has been engaged in the sensitization of pastoral communities on the importance of controlled grazing. Soil conservation structures consisting gabions and terraces have also been developed in erosion prone areas and regions. Moreover, the department had also embarked itself in the training of communities on planned grazing in three conservancies. Promotion of tree planting has also been undertaken with the establishment of tree nurseries and tree planting to increase the areas under forest conservation. The department also partnered with the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) in the development of the County Environment Action Plan alongside training 6 water resource user associations in the Samburu north, east and Central sub counties.
